Trudging Buddies
Code of Conduct
Trudging Buddies exists to inspire and empower individuals recovering from addiction through involvement in athletic and service-oriented activities. Our goal is to maintain a reputation as a welcoming, well-respected organization whose members serve as role models to everyone we interact with.
While our organization is not exclusively aligned with any single recovery program, our mission, values, and principles draw inspiration from traditional 12-step groups. These principles show that we thrive as a group in an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and shared purpose.
As members, we uphold the principle that everyone deserves to be treated with compassion and respect, both within our organization and in our interactions with the broader community. When participating in any Trudging Buddies activities, we share a responsibility to conduct ourselves in a manner that reflects these values.
This Code of Conduct serves as a framework to foster such an environment, enabling all members to feel safe, supported, and empowered in their participation with Trudging Buddies.
As a Trudging Buddies (TB) member, I agree that good behavior is required at all TB events—including rides, races, practices, games, fundraisers, volunteer activities, fellowship gatherings, and any other programs we host or participate in—as well as in all interactions with fellow members, team leadership, sponsors, and partner organizations.
I will conduct myself in a respectful and courteous manner, exhibiting good conduct and striving to be a positive role model. I understand that my behavior reflects on Trudging Buddies.
I commit to fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes all, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, marital status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or athletic abilities.
I will not harass, bully, threaten, alienate, discriminate, or make disparaging remarks to/against any person, and I will not harass or alienate others through my attire, verbal comments, or unwelcome attention.
I contribute to a community where boundaries are honored, and I will conduct myself in a manner that ensures others feel safe from unwanted physical contact, sexual advances, and other non-consensual behavior, whether in person or through digital communications.
I am committed to serving and contributing to my team and the community to the best of my ability, consistently striving to give more to every situation than I seek to gain.
I treat everyone I encounter with respect. When participating in Trudging Buddies events—including rides, races, practice, games, fundraisers, volunteer activities, and fellowship gatherings—I will cooperate and treat all staff, volunteers, fellow members, and partner organizations kindly and respectfully.
Safety is a priority. Whether participating in cycling, running, triathlons, sports leagues, or any other Trudging Buddies activity, I commit to following all applicable rules, laws, event guidelines, and safety protocols. I will uphold the highest standards of etiquette and safe practices to help ensure the wellbeing of myself, my teammates, and the broader community
I will communicate concerns that arise with the team captains or program leads, if appropriate, as they arise in order to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.
I understand that participation in Trudging Buddies activities is a privilege. The Board, upon good faith determination, may decide that continued participation by the member is not in the best interests of the team or the advancement of the Trudging Buddies purpose or mission.
